Giveaway | me and amber

hello friends today we bring to you another fun giveaway from me and amber.  me and amber are karen and amber, who join together in their graphic design studio in sydney to bring to you a range of handmade screenprinted cards, limited edition artworks, prints, notebooks, cushions (we have a bunch in the studio) and freelance design.  me and amber are giving away a limited edition gocco print rrp $55 unframed.

Tell us about your business we produce a range of hand screenprinted products, including greeting cards, one of a kind artworks, linen cushions and tea towels. much of our work combines bold silhouette graphics with typographic elements inspired by old books. we try to be environmentally responsible with everything we do, from sourcing recycled papers, to keeping production local.

How did you start me and amber, what do you love most about what you do? we studied design together at university, and collaborated on our final year project. working together was so enjoyable that we decided to start a partnership.

For some reason that we’re not quite sure of, we started experimenting with greeting cards – they were hand drawn, sewn and photocopied… a little too time consuming! we then approached ‘published art’ (a design book store we love in surry hills) and sharon was kind enough to give our cards a go. we were a little surprised when our cards actually sold, and me and amber evolved from there!

me and amber allows us to combine our two passions, art and design. we love the hands on nature of our work, designing, working with each other, and being our own bosses!

What is your favourite paper product right now?  We just adore the sustainable and biodegradable wasara paper tableware from japan. the plates and vessels are stunning….so delicate and precious. they are disposable pieces of art!

What place in the world most inspires you and why?  there isn’t one place in particular that inspires us the most.  we are most inspired when we are wandering around galleries, whether they are local or overseas.  it is a really amazing feeling to come out of an exhibition with a million different ideas running through your head.

If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?  we really love our jobs and feel incredibly lucky, but just sometimes we feel a little sorry that we are not doing something more of value in a world that is unfortunately filled with so much trouble. so, we wouldn’t mind being doctors or environmental activists or something of the sort!

What is your favourite homemade gift to give?  one of our little one of a kind artworks. we screenprint images directly onto pages of old books, so each one is different. it is quite satisfying when you find the perfect page for a specific friend and occasion!
